It isn’t an exact science when it comes to recruitment, it isn’t a one size fits all model. While you may have done what you can to make your brand and business appealing, and attracted a good level of candidates for the job role, what happens when it goes a little wrong? You may think that when the candidate’s experience is a flop, there is no going back. But you can resurrect the situation with a few simple actions. Here are some of the things that you can consider doing.
Identify the right candidates
It is important to quickly identify the right candidates for the role. If the experience wasn’t what you had in mind you can rectify it by inviting the right candidates to a zoom or virtual meeting. Send the details of the role or invite them back for a more informal meeting where they can experience the business from the ground up.
Don’t “ghost” any of the candidates
Even if the experience and interview didn’t go to plan, you don’t want to continue with the bad taste that could be left in the candidate’s mouth. After all, reputation is powerful. Make sure you keep in contact with the candidate after the interview and perhaps provide feedback and keep their details on file if you think they could be suited to other roles.
Improve the interview process
An over-structured interview can be off-putting, not just for the candidate but also for you as the interviewee. Often the best interviews will follow an informal process. Bear in mind that there will be certain questions you need answering and you will want to identify their skill set and experience, but you also want to come across as a business and brand that the candidate can work with. Talk about personal experiences and get to know the candidate. It will help to assure you and them as to whether they are a good fit for the role.
What about the candidates who you would have hired but can’t?
Often you have one job role for one person, but you have a few candidates that just missed the mark, what next? Keeping in contact with them identifying the reasons why they just missed out and offering closure means that these people could become potential candidates again in the future. They will feel valued and are more likely to be positive about your business and brand in the future.
