Maria

Firstly, congratulations on your new role, how is it going?

My position at the moment is going very well. I work for a Motor Industry business which I was attracted to because it is a corporate company. I work in their Customer Relations department, dealing with general enquiries and customer complaints on a daily basis.

Recent reports tell us the job market is recovering, how was your experience of looking for a new opportunity in this economy?

I came across this role whilst I was unemployed and was out of work for 4 months before this opportunity arrived. I do feel that the economy is slowly picking up, but at the same time competition is high amongst others in the same situation as I was.

How many interviews (roughly) did you have before securing your role?

I attended 6 interview before I was successful with this one, but like I explained competition is high so I almost lost faith on my capability.

What was your hardest interview question and why?

To be honest with you I never find interview questions difficult, I like to be myself and usually research the company and gather as much information as possible. Everything can be answered if you go for the right role.

How did social media (if at all) help in hunting for work?

Thank god everything is on the web these days, this gave me the opportunity to search at any time of the day. Years ago I would have spent time completing application forms or even traveled long distances to then be told it was a no, so yes I am a great believer in social media. I’ve been a member of Linkedin since 2012, I’ve not particularly found any jobs there but only because I used mainly other jobsites.

Why did you leave your last role?

I left my previous role because I didn’t feel that my abilities were used for the right purpose so either than been stuck in the position that I wasn’t happy with, I took the courage to leave the job and start looking for something that was more up my street.

Top tips to candidates reading this who are looking for a new role?

My advice for anyone looking for work is to never give up, stay positive even when you think that your dream job is in sight but yet you don’t get it, that is probably the right thing to happened. Being yourself and don’t ever go for a role just because of the salary, count on your strength and your commitments.
